Medfield Jazz Night 2012
presented by Needham Bank
featuring Grammy-nominated trombonist Conrad Herwig
and Medfield Jazz Band
This year’s Jazz Night, presented by Needham Bank, features internationally renowned, three-time Grammy nominee New York jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig, who will perform with the award-winning Medfield High School jazz band, at the Medfield High School Lowell Mason Auditorium
at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30.
Herwig has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra and Tito Puente. He currently performs with the Mingus Big Band.
The Medfield High School Jazz Band took home the first-place “Big Band” award at the Mingus competition in New York last year; earned an outstanding soloist award at this year’s Mingus event; and is only one of 15 high school jazz bands selected from across the country and Canada to compete at the 2012 Essentially Ellington competition at Lincoln Center May 4 to 6.
Also performing at Jazz Night will be “Jazz 2” -- a second jazz band comprised of Medfield high school students, plus the high school jazz choir, and the Blake Middle School jazz band.
“With Conrad Herwig headlining the event, and Medfield’s own award-winning jazz band and other talented students sharing the stage, we know it will be a phenomenal evening. We’re looking forward to presenting a great night of music,” said Stephen Walls, Medfield branch manager of Needham Bank.
Additional major Jazz Night sponsors are Clay Family Dealerships and Roche Bros. Jazz Night is also supported in part by a grant from the Medfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
